ABOUT PROJECT

Designing a minimalist digital monograph and cohesive identity for an architectural firm, using strict grids and subtle vector transitions to mimic shifting natural light. Axiom is an avant-garde architectural firm famous for creating brutalist structures made of concrete, raw timber, and massive glass spans. They wanted a brand identity and a portfolio platform that felt like a physical gallery spaceclean, open, and heavily focused on structural forms. Clonex was retained to construct their complete visual language, custom typography system, and web launch campaign, ensuring their digital presence echoed their physical design philosophies.

THE CHALLENGES

The difficulty lay in executing an ultra-minimalist brand system where even a single pixel of misalignment or a slightly stuttering page transition ruins the entire premium aesthetic. In extreme minimalist design, there are no decorative elements to hide behind. Every layout grid, typography pairing, and spacing ratio must be absolutely flawless. Because architectural portfolios depend heavily on uncompressed, high-resolution lifestyle photography, loading these pages on mobile screens can cause noticeable text jumps and jagged scrolling. These small visual bugs immediately destroy the high-end, precise impression the studio wants to project.

THE APPROACH

We crafted an identity around severe, custom typography, using lightweight, pre-rendered vector animations to guarantee fluid transitions across all devices. Structural Brand Identity Clonex built a custom typography system based on severe geometric line structures and raw layouts. We established an asymmetric design grid featuring large areas of white space, allowing the photography of their physical buildings to serve as the structural anchor of the entire layout.

white building under stars

To reflect Axiom’s architectural philosophy, Clonex eliminated all decorative elements, building an identity purely out of raw typography and spatial layout. The website acts as a digital monograph, incorporating fine, structural lines that animate gently as pages load. We used After Effects to craft precise, vector-based structural transitions, which were then exported into lightweight Lottie animations. This guaranteed that the heavy, image-rich portfolio layouts load instantly on mobile networks while preserving crisp, infinite scaling on 4K monitors.
